A Math-a-thon was organized by Alif Ailaan, Numaish Karachi, and Code for Pakistan at Habib University on 13th January, 2018. A Math-a-thon is a one day competition where teams comprising of the university's students come up with ways to explain mathematical concepts (based on the National Curriculum from Grades I to X) by using sports or games as the basis. The intent is to involve higher educational institutions to frame a different way of teaching and learning mathematics, and to involve educationists as judges and government school students as 'mentors' for each group of students.

Women Engineers Pakistan's Ms. Samiya Khaliq was invited to be part of the judges' panel for the event.

Samiya thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and Women Engineers Pakistan is looking forward to hosting and collaborating for such events again soon.

As per Samiya,
"It has been a great experience attending Math-a-lon as one of the Judges held in Habib University this January where I met many intelligent and sharp students of various departments and experienced educationists of many disciplines disciplines. Personally I think this event was very well organized and very successful even in it's first attempt. I fully enjoyed the event with participants coming up interesting ideas and renovations of various grade topics. With enriching experience such events helps students  to understand what they are being taught practices and puts life to perspective on how to benefit from exchange of ideas, sharing of knowledge , establishing socializing skills etc."
